Handoff Linker Tool

The Handoff Linker Tool allows users to automatically link Handoffs from Subprojects within the a Master Project file. In other words, this tool can be used to create dependencies (predecessor and successor relationships) between Subproject files once they have all been integrated within a Master Project.

1

Handoff Code Field

1. Handoff Code Field
Set this option to the text field that the master project file uses to identify the Handoff Code of Givers/Receivers.
2

Flag Field for Givers

2. Flag Field for Givers
Set this option to the flag field that Master Project will use to mark items that are Givers, or predecessors, in the Handoff relationship. Anything set to “Yes” that also contains a Handoff Code will be identified as a Giver by this tool.
3

Flag Field for Receivers

3. Flag Field for Receivers
Set this option to the flag field that Master Project will use to mark items that are Receivers, or successors, in the Handoff relationship. Anything set to “Yes” that also contains a Handoff Code will be identified as a Receiver by this tool.
4

Keep Constraints Option

4. Keep Constraints Option
Checking this option will ensure that any pre-existing constraint dates on Receivers will be kept as they are when the Link Handoffs button is clicked. SSI does not recommend checking this option because Receivers should be set to As Soon As Possible once the link from the corresponding Giver has been made. This ensures that the dates the Receivers land after the link has been made are the correct dates.
5

Mark Receivers 100% Complete Option

5. Mark Receivers 100% Complete Option
Checking this option will tell the tool to automatically mark Receivers 100% complete if the following conditions are met:
•     The Receiver is a milestone (0-day duration).
•     All Givers with a matching Handoff Code are 100% complete.
•     The date the receiver lands on after the Giver(s) is linked to it is prior to the project status date.
6

Log Link Notes Option

6. Log Link Notes Option
Checking this option will cause the Handoff Linker to log notes on Handoffs in a text field indicating whether the Handoff was able to be linked. Keep in mind, this tool automatically creates a link log in the background during runtime that can be exported to Excel, so it is not necessary to check this option.
7

Copy Current Handoff Dates Option

7. Copy Current Handoff Dates Option
Checking this option will cause the Handoff Linker to copy all the current Finish dates of all Handoffs into the field selected once the Link Handoffs button is clicked, before any links are made. This can be used to check for variances after the links between Handoffs have been made.
8

Link Handoffs Button

8. Link Handoffs Button
Clicking this button will start the process of linking all givers with their corresponding receivers. Once the process is complete, an option to export the Link Log will be presented. The "link log" contains a record of what givers and receivers were able to be connected and which ones were not.
9

Open Log Folder Button

9. Open Log Folder Button
This button will open a Windows File Explorer to the directory where the exported Link Logs are saved by default.
